What is a derby shoe?

Also called Gibson started as popular sporting and hunting boot in the 1850s.The derby shoe has been appropriate for wear in town since the 20th century.

Derby shoes are believed to be an evolution of Oxford shoes, at least in terms of comfort.

Different Parts of Men’s Dress Shoe


Since we are discussing derby shoes we discuss the parts to help us understand the shoe




Quarter: It is everything on the back end of the shoe

Vamp: This is the section of upper shoe covering the front of the foot. Going back to join the quarter.

Tongue: The tongue protects the front of your foot from the laces.

  1. Quarters are sewn over the vamp.

  2. Tongue is part of the vamp.
